Roasted: Getting The Heat And The Waste Too
Home & Garden January 17th, 2008I used to believe that there was no warmth like coal heat. Sitting at the molded fireplace in my father’s living room, I could not help but marvel at the magic of the long blazing coal. One thing I never realized was the fact that the byproduct of coal is carbon dioxide. This deadly gas seething slowly into the blood can be a cause of so many problems. Carbon dioxide is a combination of one carbon atom, and two oxygen atoms. This gas although useful to plants during the day, is harmful to human at all times and can be lethally toxic. This gas emitted from coal fire, has a big effect in our world as it is the greatest accelerator green house effect that threatened to destroy our environment.
There are other alternatives as gas fires, which are cleaner, compared to coal and peat. Although Gas powered fireplaces burn a small mount of gas to simulate the good old wood fire effect, they produce albeit less toxic gases thus leave the environment much cleaner, and your room, naturally warm. It will be awesome if you take into account the state of your flue. To be able to burn firewood in farm house fireplaces, ensuring that you install a clear glass panel, to protect you from the carbon dioxide, burn less firewood and make sure that you keep yourself healthy daily through exercise and deep inhaling during your daytime.
There is a price to pay though on both sides of the divide, you will either have to spend a little more to avoid Carbon dioxide or you may have to spend less and accept a little of the carbon dioxide into your system.
